CALTRAIN ON-CALL RAILROAD SURVEYING AND ENGINEERING

Project Description

RSE continues to provide on-call support for a variety of Caltrain grade crossing grade separation and maintenance yard rehabilitation projects. In addition, RSE also made updates to Caltrain's Asset Management System to comply with FTA requirements. The following projects and on-call services are representative of the diverse expertise, knowledge, and experience that RSE staff has provided Caltrain over the duration of the engagement.

RSE provided a wide range of intersection safety, rehabilitation, and construction services for several grade crossings along the Caltrain Corridor. Services included:

 

  • Grade crossing safety improvements regarding sight distance, truck turning, signing/striping, pedestrian safety, and drainage improvements

  • Roadway crossing grading improvements

  • Installation of communications and signal conduits

  • Rehabilitation of tracks and roadway crossings

  • Surveying/mapping

  • Construction services.

Centralized Equipment, Maintenance, and Operations Facility (CEMOF) Planning and

Right-of-Way Engineering Support

RSE was responsible for maintenance yard

and track design, right-of-way engineering, surveying, grading and drainage, and construction services.

FTA Transit Asset

Management Pilot Program

Under this project, RSE updated the existing Caltrain Asset Management Program to make it consistent with the Federal Transit Administration (FTA) requirement as a nationwide Asset Management Pilot Program. The work included establishing a new database, and coordination with and obtaining approvals from FTA.

San Bruno Grade Separation

Peer Review

RSE provided a constructability review of the grade separation project during design and construction. The review included disciplines in track, signals, electrical/mechanical, structures, architectural, stage construction, construction services, and inspection.
